From the Artist:
“I have been captivated by clay—it’s textures, colors
and the endless possibilities for creation it
offers—since my very first experience working with the
medium. There is something essentially magical and
spiritual about clay and this is what continues to
inspire me in my artistry.
I began my artistic journey with clay in ceramics,
creating functional and non-functional pieces on the
wheel. I moved onto coiled and pinched vessels by hand,
and this led me to designing and creating abstract
pieces in slab.
I always knew that I wanted more from this medium, but I
didn’t know what direction to take. From my drawing
classes with live models, I discovered and started to
understand the human figure: the beautiful lines, the
characteristic features, strength and beauty of the
figure. This made me want to sculpt the human figure in
clay. By sculpting the figure I realized my path and
passion. Thus, I began my true artistic
journey—sculpting the human figure.
The human figure is infinite and as I create these
figures, I learn more about them and their dimensions.
In my sculptures I am trying to capture the essence of
the human figure—it’s strength, quietness, vulnerability
and magnificence." |
